Teaching and Learning:

You will learn through short-topic lectures covering the principles of occupational health and safety and how to apply this in the workplace.

Assessment details:
Assessment is a multiple-choice examination (available in some other languages) which is taken at the end of the day.
For people with learning difficulties a spoken form of the examination is also available.
After passing the examination you will receive, in approximately eight weeks, a Certificate Level 2 in Health and Safety in the Workplace.


Duration of course
– One day 9.00am to 4pm
Venue: Optimum-MBA, Training Centre.
Target group: All employees
Tutor: Peter Effer CMIOSH, Cert Ed – Ex Local Authority Environmental Health H&S Enforcement Officer.
Aims: extending health and safety awareness of statutory duties, legal requirements and safe systems of work.
Objective: To pass the CIEH Multi choice examination. 30 questions for which you must achieve 20 or more correct for a pass.
Subjects covered: Include Health and Safety Legislation, Welfare, Workplace Equipment, Manual Handling, Hazardous Substances, Work station design, Working at Heights, Transport, Noise and Vibration


Course schedule:

9.00 – 9.10 Welcome, domestics and introduction.
9.10 – 10.15 A brief on the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, Health and Safety Policies plus Roles and Responsibilities.
10.15 – 10.30 Tea / Coffee Break
10.30 – 10.45 Risk-Assessment definitions and meanings
10.45 – 11.15 A practical exercise quantifying risk i.e. low, medium or high.
11.15 – 12.00 A group practical exercise writing a number of user friendly risk-assessments
12.00 – 12.30 Lunch Break – refreshments provided.
12.30 – 14.00 Continue with practical risk assessment
14.00 – 14.15 Tea / Coffee Break
14.15 – 15.00 Question and answer session to reinforce learning.
15.00 Attempt CIEH Multi choice examination.
